COGNITION - BOOKSTORE PROPOSAL.
YEAR 3 // SEMESTER 1.
This project looks at the role in which design plays in the 'retail experience'. 'Cognition was designed with a brief to create a retail space with an innovative design that adheres to its context (Gasworks, Newstead) whilst encouraging a sense of community and accommodating a secondary activity. The stores' concept draws inspiration from an abstract representation of the brain because what is a bookstore if not a place of knowledge? The primary design feature in the ceiling and balustrade was inspired by the form of the brains neurons and different areas of the store are grouped to match specific brain areas and to inspire browsers to make unexpected connections between books they may not have previously considered to look at. The raised level allows for public readings to take place, expanding occupants knowledge.

YEAR 2 // SEMESTER 1.
With rates of homelessness increasing each year in the United Kingdom the concept of semi-permanent living spaces known as the 'Z-pod' was designed to help ease the transition out of homelessness for those in Oxford. This Zed-pod was designed with informational corroboration with Crisis and took inspiration from a homeless man who goes by the name of Reece. With the struggle of ensuring the place is not too neat and crisp (to make the transition from homelessness seem more seamless) and incorporating furnitecture this project is one of great interest.
